The first champion of the 2019 Guymon Pioneer Days Rodeo has been crowned.

Thomas Smith of Barnsdall, Oklahoma, roped and tied five steers in 64.9 seconds to win the steer roping title during competition that took place Monday and Tuesday at Hitch Arena. The 27-year-old cowboy shared the first-round victory with Trevor Brazile, then placed in two other rounds.

In all, he pocketed $7,446. That money will move Smith into the Top 30 in the PRCA world standings and to the No. 1 spot in the Prairie Circuit.
